RhED

Resourcing health & Education (RhED) is a service for the sex industry in Victoria. The service provides site based and outreach services in collaboration with relevant programs and agencies.

RhED adopts a broad definition of sex work that is inclusive of those engaged in the provision of sexual services, sexually explicit entertainment and sexually explicit content creation.

RhED is committed to respecting and reflecting the needs of the sex industry, and actively promoting the rights of sex workers.

As with all services provided through RhED, you are guaranteed confidentiality in any interaction you have with us either by phone, in person or through our outreach and netreach services.

Who we are:

RhED is staffed by people who have worked or are working in the sex industry and other professionals.

The RhED volunteer program is made up of current and past sex workers.

RhED resources and presentations are developed in collaboration with sex workers.

As a program of Star Health, RhED uses a social model of health, using harm minimisation; health promotion, social inclusion; and community participation approaches to promote physical, emotional and social health and wellbeing for its client groups.

Our Values:

  • Sex work is work
  • Sex worker rights are human rights
  • Centring and uplifting the voices of and working alongside sex workers
  • Full decriminalisation promotes the health, safety and human rights of sex workers

Our Mission:

To provide holistic and inclusive services, programmes and resources to Victorian-based sex workers, disseminate relevant and current information to the greater sex industry, and to provide sex-work-centred education to the wider community.

Our Objectives:

  1. Reflect the needs of the sex worker community
By meaningful consultation with the community and responsiveness to feedback.
  2. Increase health, wellbeing and rights of sex workers in Victoria.
By: health promotion and education, holistic and inclusive support through one-on- one support sessions with sex workers, outreach, case management, career
development, advocacy work with sex workers, allies, other sex industry staff,
external services and the national and international sex worker community.
  3. Decrease stigma and discrimination in the community
By conducting training and education with health and social services, government agencies, the general public, and the media and by advocating for the full decriminalisation of sex work in Victoria.
  4. Raise the voices of sex workers and support the self-determination of sex workers
By a move towards a model where sex workers (current and past) are involved in decision making and meaningful participation at all levels.
  5. Facilitate peer led spaces where sex workers can come together for connection,
conversation, development, debriefing, organising and advocacy work.
  6. Promote career development for sex workers in their chosen paths, underpinned by the knowledge that sex work is work, sex workers are the experts in their own lives and with the intention of dismantling barriers created by stigma to personal and professional development.
